The HR manager of today has a lot more responsibilities than before. They are not only responsible for the day-to-day operations but also for the future of the company. With all these demands, it is not surprising that they are facing more challenges and have less time to focus on their work.

1. Globalization:- Today we are living in a globalized word where we can enjoy goods and services of entire word in in our local place. Globalization means providing access to organizations to expand their businesses across the nations.

With the help of globalization, an organization can easily off- shore it’s business from one country to another. Generally, international companies off-shore their businesses to developing countries to take advantage of low cost, tax and skilled manpower.

This process directly and indirectly affects the HRM of both the off-shoring organization and local organization. In one hand, Off-shoring organization’s HR manager has to make plan, policies and practices on the basis of other country’s SWOT analysis and in another hand, local organizations also get badly affected due to entry of international organizations.

Because international companies provides higher pay to employees that attracts all the qualified and skilled manpower of local organizations which is very challenging for local companies.

2. Workforce Diversity:- Today, organizations are becoming more heterogeneous in terms of gender, race, ethnicity and other background. The involvement of women and minorities in the work Force has been increasing.

Such increase in diversity increased the roles and responsibility of HR managers to handle diversity related issues and problem at work. There is increasing need for training, education, and other awareness program to develop a certain level of awareness to recognize differences at work.

3. The Contingent Workforce:- Generally, there are two types of employees work in an organization i.e. 1) permanent employees, 2) contractual employees. Due to globalization, the trend of hiring contractual employees has been increasing.

Companies are more interested to hire employees for short time period in order to cope with changes in business. But as contractual employees retain only for short time period in an organization, HR managers are facing many kinds of issues in hiring, training and developing new employees time to time.

4. Decentralized Work Sites:- Currently, we are living in the digital world. Everything has become digitalized. Due to internet, computer and technology, home has become office for people. People can work from home.

This practice is highly increasing in developed as well as developing countries. But, this has also increased challenges for today’s HR managers in the process of ensuring quality of work and designing proper reward system.

5. Employees Investment:- Employees involvement in all kinds of works and decision making is highly required for effective and efficient utilization of other resources and achieving the goals of the organization. But for making employees involvement in any work is not easy.

HR managers need to motivate them by using different motivation techniques. Authority delegation, job redesign, job enrichment, reward system , these motivation techniques can be used to motivate employees.

6. Changing Skill Requirement and Avoiding Skill Deficiencies:- One of the biggest challenge of today’s HR manager is fast changes in technologies. Due to rapid changes in technologies, skill of manpower needs to be updated rapidly to cope with the change which is not easy for all. Changes in skill must be done in order to compete with other competitors.
